I finally figured out an idea for Block 8 of the # I finally figured out an idea for Block 8 of the #loveletterqal with instructor @heidi.parkes on @creativebug! The prompt was time together, but since this is a self-love quilt, it’s about the time I spend with myself! I’m a fairly cheerful person, but I tend to be a little, little, little bit grumpy when I wake up first thing in the morning. So when my girls were little I’d wake up 30-60 minutes before I woke them up. These days, I like to wake up, grab some tea and go back to my bed for an hour or sometimes even two! (One of the many perks of working for yourself.) I take that time to read, play on my phone, meditate, etc. It’s my morning me time! It feels very indulgent and as a form of self-care, I appreciate it. Also something to note: this pillowcase was stitched on, you guessed it! Blocks 10 & 11 of the @creativebug #loveletterqal Blocks 10 & 11 of the @creativebug #loveletterqal with @heidi.parkes! The prompts for these are anniversary and best traits. Though I have them flip-flopped… The best traits one is at the top. When I first moved to Portland from California, everyone asked if I was going to be able to handle the rain. I always joked “I bring the sunshine wherever I go!“ (As an aside, I bought that fabric in a remnant sale. I think I got 2 yards of it for $1.63! But it was rolled up and I didn’t even know that I had that sweet, scalloped edge! I love it so much!) The anniversary block is personal, so I’m keeping that one to myself. 😉 I feel a little behind… but am I really?! 😉 #joyfulartjournaling #quiltalong #creativebug

This piece is SUPER special to me! But first… T This piece is SUPER special to me! But first… This is for the prompt, an artifact. Which, if you’re following along, means I skipped the “time together” prompt. I’m having such a hard time coming up with something I’m satisfied with, I just decided to skip it (for now) so I have more time to consider it, but also to not get tooooo far behind. 😉 Anyway! About this piece: It’s sooo special to me! The fabric is from a pillow case I used as a child in a bed that was handed down from my grandparents (who I believe got it from their parents). Because it was so old it was an odd size and my parents had to get the mattress specially made. Which meant also, that store-bought sheets wouldn’t fit it. So someone made me two sets of sheets (or maybe my mom just bought the closest size?) and this was from one of them. Later, when my girls were little, they shared a bed for about two years and slept in that same bed using these same sheets. My oldest daughter is named Jazmin and my youngest daughter is named Jesse, and I have frequently called them, big J and little J! (Coincidentally, Jazmin signs her name with a capital J, and Jesse signs her name with a lowercase J… Like I do!) But for the “stuffing” (I don’t know the technical term?!) I used bits of their clothes from when they were little! In Jazmin’s it’s an old beloved SpongeBob SquarePants T-shirt (her favorite cartoon!), and in Jesse’s is a piece of a blue and purple tank dress that she wore so often it was falling apart! 🔮 So to me, this is like a triple artifact, with so many bits of history, honoring the two best things I ever made in my life.
